A Dual Ascent

Adventure-puzzle game

 September 2023- Ongoing

A Dual Ascent is my graduating game, we are a team of 9 composed of 2 programmers, 3 game designers, and 4 game artists. We are developing the game using UE 5.

This is a solo game where players control both characters—the child and the creature—simultaneously, aiming to reach the summit of a magical Mountain, all within a whimsical universe.

Production

This is the result and my tasks for the production phase of our game. We are curently making cut regarding the scope of the game, in order to deliver the final blockout for the artist as well as doing some playtest

What I did

  • Puzzle design

  • Integration of puzzle in the world

  • blockout of the entire game

  • Design of individual gameplay

  • Pacing set up using the macro time line

  • First iteration of narration in the game

  • WIP of cutscene following storyboards

Level Design

On this project we are 3 Level Designers, so after the macro was finished, we separated each zone in smaller levels so that we could work on each part individually. We did this for the zone 01 and the zone 02. 

For this protoype only the zone 01 got arranged by the artist, so here is a full before/ after on the final one. The other are still in blockout phase

Preproduction

We divided the year in 3 big milestones, this is my tasks and the results of the first one

What I did

  • Designing the 3C's, especially the camera.

  • Developing 3 levels using BSP for our core gameplay and unique controller (the last 3 levels of the prototype).

  • Creating a macro timeline for the game.

  • Designing mechanics for a solo-adventure puzzle game where you control two characters simultaneously.

  • Iteration on simultaneous gameplay.
